Dylan Fitterer's innovative rhythm-racing title Audiosurf is now available for purchase on Steam, Valve announced today. One of the first titles to make use of Steam achievements via Valve's recently released Steamworks tools, Audiosurf is a simple racer which analyzes user-provided audio tracks and integrates the rhythm and tempo of the song into the course. Valve has provided the entire Orange Box soundtrack, including Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive", for use in the game.

Gamers on the fence can download a free demo of Audiosurf on Steam to give the game a shot prior to purchase. Audiosurf is available at a $9.95 price point.

AudioSurf is kind of a fun way to enjoy music and games together!

I think they need to add duel sound level sliders in the options menu: One for game sound effect levels and one for the actual song. Because when I played my first song, Holy Hell it was LOUD.

Besides that if was pretty good. I really like the unlockable ships with different abilities to suit your style of play, and the achievements thing always adds a reason to play more.

I was just going to post this. Great fun. And a great way to listen to the tracks Toneh just gave out.

They do have those sliders, just not in the normal options menu -- hit ESC while on a map. A bit clunky for sure.

Awesome game, easily worth the $10. I would have paid twice as much. Surprisingly, I've found the toughest maps are spoken word tracks, which I initially loaded up for a laugh. Tracks go really quickly from slow to fast based on how fast the person is talking ... very challenging.
