Revised PSP Hits Stores Early in Silver Trim, Black and White to Follow

The long-rumored PSP revision revealed by Sony at this year's E3 press conference is now in stores, the console manufacturer announced today. Previously, Sony had provided a release date of September 10 for the redesigned portable.

Initially available only in the $199 Daxter Entertainment Pack--which bundles an "Ice Silver" edition of the system with a copy of Ready At Dawn's platformer Daxter, the Family Guy -- The Freakin' Sweet Collection video UMD, and a 1GB Memory Stick--the revised handheld will be sold by itself in "Piano Black" for $169.99 later in September.

A "Ceramic White" PSP arrives on October 9 in the $199 Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, containing Rebellion's shooter Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and an image of Darth Vader on the system's backside.

Slimmer and lighter than the original PSP, the revised PSP features a more responsive d-pad and buttons, as well as a video-out capability that allows games and media to be viewed on a television.

Oh clever: announce your new slightly-improved portable entertainment device is on store shelves the exact same day Apple reveal a revamp to their entire line.

I think the date was placed even before apple announced the event date.

Anyways, isn't today Euro's release date and the US is on Sept 10?

SCEA sent out the PR today, though they had previously announced Sept 10. It's Christmas in September!
