Boxed Up Briefs: Warhawk and Lair Dated

2
So tomorrow is the Fourth of July, meaning there probably won't be much news. As next week will be an unbelievable onslaught of nonstop announcements, I get the feeling that the holiday will be one of those "calm before the storm" moments.

Today's brief include dates for Incognito's Warhawk (PS3), Factor 5's Lair (PS3), ArenaNet's Guild Wars: Eye of the North (PC), and details on collector's edition of Reality Pumps' Two Worlds (PC, X360).

  • Warhawk and Lair dated

    [ps3]

Sony Computer Entertainment America today revealed release dates for two upcoming PlayStation 3 titles. According to a Sony blog post, Factor 5's dragon-centric Lair will head to stores on August 14th. Incognito's multiplayer-only Warhawk (check out our coverage) will follow two weeks later on August 28.

As previously reported, Warhawk will be simultaneously released through both retail channels and the online PlayStation Store. The retail version of Warhawk will sell for $59.99 and comes packaged with a Jabra Bluetooth headset, said to be a $39 value. No pricing was announced for the downloadable version.

  • "First" Guild Wars expansion pack hits in August

    [pc]

The first expansion pack for ArenaNet's fee-less MMO Guild Wars (PC), entitled Eye of the North, is set for release on August 31, publisher NCsoft announced today. Adding 18 multi-level dungeons, 150 skills, ten heroes, and 40 new armor sets, Eyes of the North will also feature new items, weapons, and the Hall of Monuments, which the company claims will establish "a path for players to carry the legacy of their characters into the upcoming Guild Wars 2."

While NCsoft has released game-expanding content for Guild Wars in the the past--including Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall--the company apparently classifies them as campaigns, not expansion packs.

  • Two Worlds collector's edition detailed

    [pc] [xbox360]

A collector's edition of Reality Pump's upcoming PC and Xbox 360 RPG Two Worlds will be available when the game hits in August, publisher SouthPeak Games announced today.

Packaged in a holographic slipcase, the collector's edition will include a world map, a 72-page pen-and-paper RPG book, and a bonus disc filled with music, video, and fansite materials. Buyers of the $59.99 PC version will receive exclusive in-game items, whereas those who pick up the $69.99 Xbox 360 will be rewarded with a 48 hour Xbox Live Gold trial membership.

What's the difference between an expansion pack and a campaign?

The three campaigns are stand alone games that have content for characters of all levels. EotN requires that you own one of the three campaigns already and all of its content is geared for level 20 characters. It sounds like EotN was supposed to be another campaign but they ran out of time/money and focused on level 20 only content. The devs have stated that the tutorial sections (pre level 20) and balancing new classes were the hardest parts of the campaigns.

Sadly EotN is Guild War's first and last expansion. ArenaNet looks to be abandoning GW when GW2 comes out.
