A game based off NBC's award-winning comedy The Office is headed to PC, Nintendo DS, and PSP this fall. Development and publishing will be handled by MumboJumbo, the studio known for casual gaming sensations such as Luxor 2 (X360, PSP, PC). According to today's announcement, the title will, "deliver the quirky fun of the critically-acclaimed TV series to gamers."

The show, which is based off Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's BBC series of the same name, stars Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson (pictured left), John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. The third season of the popular office-centered sitcom just recently finished airing on NBC Universal, with a fourth set to begin in the fall.

"We are honored that NBC Universal has chosen us to be their partner for this exciting new project," said MumboJumbo CEO Mark Cottam. "We look forward to working closely with their team to ensure that the thematic elements of 'The Office' are closely approximated in the development of the video game."

"The cast and creators of 'The Office' have done a fantastic job delivering a show with a personality all its own," said Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group VP and general manager Bill Kispert. "MumboJumbo is an innovator in the casual games space, and developing a game with them that combines the quirky characters and humor of the show with a proven, addictive game mechanic we think will be welcomed by fans and casual game players alike."

Update: According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first Office-inspired game will be a management game, reminiscent of Gamelab's Diner Dash, that puts players in the role of Jim Halpert as he competes against pseudo-rival Dwight K. Schrute. Characters in the game will appear as bobble heads.

The article also mentions that MumboJumbo is looking into Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions of Office games.
