Double Fine Signs with Vivendi Games

19
Gamasutra has dug up a lengthy Vivendi Games presentation from June, detailing the company's assets, acquisitions, and other strategies in the near future. Along with plenty of details regarding the success of subsidiary Blizzard's World of Warcraft, the presentation lists six external developers currently working with Vivendi. All of these studios have been previously known to have games in the works for Vivendi, with the exception of one: San Francisco-based Psychonauts (PS2, Xbox, PC) developer Double Fine Productions. The studio was founded in 2000 by former LucasArts designer Tim Schafer, who headed up titles such as Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.

No details were given regarding the Vivendi deal. It lists Double Fine's development specialty as "Action/Adventure," but this may not indicate the specific genre of the studio's upcoming game. Schafer has revealed in the past that the studio has a new game in production, but no details regarding its genre or content have been announced.

I wish this meant Psychonauts was being ported to the 360 :(

It is being ported to the 360 (via backwards compatibility, if that's what you meant). It's been announced and reassured a few times now.

Not by Microsoft, though, and that's really all that counts. After that whole wacky "Is it coming?" business a guy on the compatibility team came out and basically said "Look, we can't say whether it is or not, but like the rest of the games we hope to be able to do it" or something to that effect.
