Blood Bowl Returns to the Video Game Field

In 2004, French developer Cyanide released the PC strategy title Chaos League, a gritty fantasy take on American football. To tabletop game manufacturer Games Workshop, Chaos League seemed perhaps a bit too similar to its own brutal fantasy game Blood Bowl, which also received an official PC game from Destiny Software Productions in 1995. Now, it appears that any conflict between Games Workshop and Cyanide has been resolved, as Games Workshop today issued a press release announcing the development of a series of Blood Bowl video games from Cyanide.
More details of the first "Blood Bowl" title and publisher to follow shortly! Any differences between Games Workshop and Cyanide have been amicably settled for an undisclosed sum, and as part of the settlement the "Chaos League" title has been assigned to Games Workshop. There are no plans to develop or release any further "Chaos League" titles or supplements.

Video games based on Games Workshop properties have been released for decades, with a slew of turn-based and real-time strategy games released in the 1990s, but it is only in recent years that the company has turned its popular fantasy and sci-fi Warhammer franchises into both critical and commercial success in the video gaming medium.

The announcement did not specify target platforms, a publisher, or a planned release period. However, Cyanide's heavily PC-centric back catalogue suggests that the game will be coming to PC, if not other platforms. According to the press release, the agreement allows for a series of titles.

I can only hope they pull this off. Mutant League football was such a great game, but I've never seen anything like it since (other than Mutant League Hockey)
