PC Game Sales in 2002

But no one is predicting the demise of PC game-playing just yet. Koenig believes PCs are likely to hold on to their core audience of sophisticated game enthusiasts and are likely to continue their lead in online gaming because PCs are more suited to it
So, a 9.6% drop in # of games made available and a 6% drop in sales numbers. Pretty interesting stuff. I am certain I spent more money on console related stuff this year than any other, and I'm sure I'm not alone with the cube and xbox showing up with so many new games. I'm of the opinion that the new generation of console systems did just as expected, creating a surge in spending on the console side of things while taking away from other sales. I wouldnt go calling this an ongoing trend just yet, but if we see another drop in PC sales next year.. well then I wouldnt really be so quick to think of it as just an anomalous byproduct of the new consoles cycle.

Everything is always attributed to outside causes whenever there is an economic problem. Stocks falling, people becoming more concerned about their futures... well damn video sales are down, must be the console game market. Job losses en masse? Companies going bankrupt? The people must not be flying our airline because of Jet Blue, DAMNIT!
