Microsoft made a number of announcements today, including a Kinect-free Xbox One bundle, as well as less limitations to its apps. But the company is really moving forward with its Games With Gold program, not only bringing a trio of great games for the Xbox 360, but also debuting the program for Xbox One--with one notable caveat.
In June Xbox One players will be able to download the top-down shooting adventure Halo: Spartan Assault, as well as the side-scrolling adventure Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. For good measure, the Gold membership also guarantees you can download the Xbox 360 versions on top of the Xbox One editions.
However, the announcement specified that on Xbox One, the Games with Gold program gives you "subscription-based access" to its line-up. That seems to imply that unlike the Xbox 360 program, you'll lose your games if you let the subscription lapse.
On Xbox 360, three games will be available instead of the usual two. First up is the action-packed Dark Souls, Namco's sequel to the hit Demon's Souls. Next up, Ska Studios' multiplayer brawler Charlie Murder will join the free line-up, bringing its ectectic art style and ridiculously fun gameplay. Finally, as a "bonus" title to the line-up, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will be available for download, making it all the more easier for people to upgrade to the new Ultra edition coming this summer.
It's a good month for downloading, so save some room on your hard drives.
