Dying Light pushed to 2015 for sake of 'Natural Movement' system

Dying Light has been pushed to February 2015, in order to fully realize the parkour-like "Natural Movement" system.

Techland's parkour zombie game Dying Light has been delayed to February 2015, pushing it out of its 2014 release window. According to the announcement, the studio made the decision to delay in order to fully realize its "Natural Movement" system, which has been pitched as its standout feature.

"We wanted to give you a freedom of movement unprecedented in open-world games," read the statement. "After many improvements and months of hard work, we have now come so close to realizing our initial vision we feel we cannot stop before it is ready. We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing too early."

          Don't know about the world at large but I see people on the origins friends list playing nightly, and my list is composed mostly of BF4 guys who never play that outside of Shackbattle nights. And even those have nearly died out.

          I still play some Titanfall from time to time. It's a lot of fun in bursts, but I can only take so much Attrition. Prefer Variety Pack for the... variety, but it seems like everyone is always / only playing Attrition when I join up. I don't know how they do it!

            Wouldn't agree with that, it really depends on the game and the age of it. There was a large base of Battlefield fans here when BF4 was new, and a large chunk of people for months after. Diablo 3 had a ton of players when the patch and Reaper of Souls launched, and still has people in the clan on nightly. Dark Souls 2 stole some of its thunder for sure though. Dark Souls sort of took over everything for week.

            There's always going to be something new taking players away, and there's more niche online MP stuff now than ever. ArmA 3, Hearthstone, ESO and other MMOs, Wargame, World of Tanks, Minecraft, and so on. The people playing games online on my Steam list right now are all in some very different games, and it's generally a wide mix like that. Marvel Super Heroes, DayZ, CS:GO, Space Engineers, Dark Souls 2, The Golf Club, etc. Not prime time either.

            I don't know where the console players flock to, but Titanfall PC was never huge to begin with, and since they shipped without private matches we kind of missed out on the chance for shackbattles to build into standard weekly community thing. Wadmaasi tried to get a few going when they added it but by then most people had moved on to other stuff. There's still more people playing it regularly than played the last few Call of Duty games, don't know if I should be surprised by that or not.

              there's certainly still some and it depends on the game in this community (Dark Souls is massively over represented here while sports games are massively under represented) but in general its declined. Dark Souls these are more like Skyrim threads than shackbattles. BF is somewhat unique due to its PC heritage and our history with shackbattles.

                Was just saying Diablo 3 was bumping constantly here from the patch & expansion up until DS2's PC release. There's a still a large following but the numbers online in the clan dropped sharply the day Dark Souls 2 on PC was released. Plus others have been playing so much they burned out on it and took a break for any other reason, not sure if it will climb back or what at this point, maybe the next big patch will set things straight again. I only bring Diablo 3 up because it was the recent online game with the highest number of active shackers I saw playing regularly (nightly).

                I'm not sure how much DS2 is over-represented. I have 60 people who play DS2 on my friends list, far more than I have with a game like Titanfall, and they were all playing it a ton that launch week. Over 130 with the first game, but that had a much longer tail and obviously more sales. You're right in that the threads are more like the tales of adventure from Skyrim and it's not a traditional MP game, but there's no mistaking that it's sucking a decent amount of people away from any number of other things they'd otherwise be playing online, and for dozens of hours. I rarely skipped a BF4 shackbattle until I was absorbed into DS2. Once I was in it I didn't really touch anything else, and when I wanted a break and would fire up Diablo 3 I was shocked to find that it turned into a ghost town. Had to be some crossover.

                  i think part of why there are so many dark souls threads is a large part of the game is exploration, lore analysis, secrets, and just random stories. there is also a lot of tactical discussion about bosses. it feels like a modern update of the old grade-school / jr. high swapping stories about your latest game on the playground. when not everyone had nintendo power or walkthroughs and there was a lot of just discussion.
