In its haste to finally release Arma 3, Bohemia Interactive snipped out its campaign to release as free DLC later. Today the developer announced that the first of three planned episodes will launch on October 1, and released a handful of screenshots showing it'll go down across night and day, land and sea.

"Our first campaign episode, 'Survive,' introduces players to Ben Kerry, a regular soldier who's part of a NATO peacekeeping mission in the Mediterranean," creative director Jay Crowe said in today's announcement. "Following a couple of years of uneasy cease-fire, this US-led deployment is now in the process of a staged drawdown. The vacuum left by withdrawing forces is being rapidly filled by the opposing CSAT faction, creating the conditions for, one might say, a flashpoint."

The campaign is also bringing new weapons, animations, vehicles, objects, scripted modules and more for everyone to play with in the sandbox and their own creations.
