The Evil Within gameplay trailer shows 12 minutes of scares

What we've seen of The Evil Within so far has mostly focused on the build-up to awful things happening, but a new twelve-minute gameplay trailer skips straight into the unpleasantness. It starts off with Detective Castellanos hung upside-down surrounded by mutilated corpses while and then, well, things get worse.

The Evil Within is a survival horror in development at Tango Gameworks under the direction of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. It's due on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 in 2014.

For an alternate take on this section, and more of the lead-up to it, Bethesda producer (and Shacknews alumnus) Jason Bergman gave a twenty-minute gameplay demo at the Eurogamer Expo yesterday. But here's the super-official, carefully massaged version:
