Buyouts & SuperGlue
by Steve Gibson, Jul 19, 2000 3:42pm PDTWord from this morning (dunno why we missed it) is that CNET is buying out ZiffDavis. (Gamecenter buys GameSpot basically) The deal is for a wimpy 1.6billion dollars. Not sure where this leaves Microsoft in the whole thing (They had a big share of CNET) but if we're lucky... well.. yeah. Also, a few people have sent in word that there is some whispering going on about NVidia looking at buying up what is left of Aureal. More word on that when I can find it. Lastly, Maarten had a bad experience earlier this week. Poor guy.

Comments
Hey, change of subject, wouldn't it be sweet comments automatically added themselves to the page when they were posted so you didn't have to keep reloading? I'm not sure if it's possible in HTML, but with all these newfangled DHTML things I bet there's a way. I would think that would save the shack quite some bandwidth.

ok, most of the time, i only check http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/
why did they get bought?
zd is running very well and got enough money.
the plain number of zdtv camera's and their own booth to write news rocked!
i hope, cnet doesn't fuck 'em up.
btw maaaaa'eeeeen, what happens if you get a boner?
I hope nVidia isn't going to waste time and money saving Aureal. Frankly I think EAX is a heck of a lot better than A3d and I would like to see it garner more support as a result of Aureal dying.
Has anyone ever tried Quake 3 in A3d? Jesus it sounds shite, Counterstrike on the other hand with EAX sounds amazing.

This has to be the most random thread we have so far.
Don't you people know that chatshack works a lot faster than posting and constantly refreshing?
I didn't pay attention to the response number, because I hit reply to the post I was responding to, and that usually puts the right number in the box.
The sound card world without Aureal is actually pretty bad. They have no serious competition. Not long ago, you could buy a seriously competitive, and arguably better product in some ways for $15 (Vortex 1 vs the old SB pre live stuff). I bought my MX300 for under $50. Now, you go out and see the Live boards selling retail for $100.
I would only buy more Creative stuff if they were the only choice. I have had terrible customer support on a couple of products that I got that were defective, and don't want to go through that again.
/me crosses fingers and hopes somebody buys the A3D tech and makes something of it.
Competition = Good

Man, it was like the ENTIRE SHACK was united against Daggah...
Man that was bizzare, yet somehow vaguely cool.
I wonder if it will ever come to a "shut up ramanon" day....
