Sony VP mentions Gran Turismo 6 as PS3 game

An interview with SCEE's Michael Denny suggests that Gran Turismo 6 may not be a PS4 game at all. Instead, it could be one of Sony's remaining games for PS3. "Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6," he told Silicon Republic, casually mentioning the technically unannounced game.
He also mentions third-party games like "another fantastic Assassin's Creed, GTA" as games heading to Sony's aging console. Assassin's Creed 4 is also technically unannounced, but its reveal seems impending.
The need for a next-gen Gran Turismo game may have been negated by DriveClub, Sony's racing simulator from MotorStorm dev Evolution Studios. Given Polyphony Digital's methodical development approach, a current-gen follow-up to Gran Turismo 5 wouldn't be entirely surprising--although one wonders if Sony will be making a proper PS4 version of the game as well, considering the lack of proper backwards compatibility in Sony's next-gen box.
Silicon Republic released the audio of their interview for you to listen to (via IGN). He certainly sounds convinced that GT6 is a PS3 game.

I imagine that Polyphony might have to revamp their toolset to work with the PS4, and that's taking a while. Remember that GT5 Prologue was announced at E3 2007, and released in spring 2008. GT5 ultimately kept getting delayed, but released in late November 2010 (missing its November 2, 2010 scheduled release date, therefore saving John Vignocchi from having to shave "RD" onto his chest).
It does make me think a little of Atlus, who took a really long time to release a current-gen console platform game. For their own engine tech, it's ultimately Persona 4 Golden on the Vita. Catherine was based on Gamebryo, and Persona 4 Arena used Arc System Works' engine tech that was used in BlazBlue and Guilty Gear.
That said, I do like Polyphony's style of detail in the in-car view (compared to Forza 4's cartoony incorrect digital readouts that look like True Type fonts pasted onto a dashboard), and their more direct sampling of exhaust notes (even though the pitch modification makes it sound wonky, it's far more loyal than Forza 4's "every engine is effectively a trumpet" synthesis routine that misses key nuances of engine tone, like the siren's song of the Lexus LFA, or the guttural gusto of the BMW E60 M5's V10. In Forza 4, both the LFA and E60 M5 sound no different from a Lamborghini Gallardo, which is WRONG).
