The Witcher 3 riding onto PlayStation 4
by Alice O'Connor, Feb 21, 2013 6:00am PSTYou may have CD Projekt RED's logo pop up in Sony's big list of third-party developers at the PlayStation 4 announcement and guessed, and it was hardly a secret anyway, but now it's properly confirmed: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is indeed coming to PlayStation 4. The splendid series started on PC then spread to Xbox 360 with the sequel, but this is the first time the gritty RPG will be on any PlayStation.
The Witcher 3 tosses Geralt into an open world said to be thirty times larger than The Witcher 2's, with horses to ride, boats to sail, and, of course, monsters to hunt for fun and profit. It'll conclude the story of Geralt that's spread across two games so far, of how he lost his memory and his love to the ghostly Wild Hunt.
"The new hardware gives us the opportunity to create something great," CD Projekt RED head Adam Badowski said in today's announcement. "We are able to work with the new console from its birth and this allows our in-house REDengine 3 to push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display. The console is fresh and has some innovative solutions that we're looking forward to using in our game."
RED says it'll release The Witcher 3 in 2014 "simultaneously on all high-end platforms available," so expect another announcement when Microsoft unveils its own new console.
