Temple Run 2 hits 20 million downloads in first weekend
by Steve Watts, Jan 21, 2013 2:30pm PSTThe first Temple Run was a breakout success, earning 170 million downloads in total so far. But it had to build word-of-mouth slowly, and took more than a year arriving at that number. Its sequel, bolstered by brand recognition, is off to a much quicker start.
Imangi Studios announced today that the game has already reached 20 million downloads, just four days after its release on the App Store. It spent the weekend as the top free app, and third in the top grossing apps ranking. Players have spent more than 210 million play sessions racking up a combined 1,775 years of gameplay so far. The game is scheduled to release on Android devices later this week.
"The response from fans has been overwhelming," said Imangi co-founder Keith Shepherd, in the announcement. "We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months."
The sequel sports improved visuals, organic environments, and more playable characters, along with power-ups and special powers for each character.
