MechWarrior Online double XP weekend incoming

You're stomping around merrily in MechWarrior Online's new Spider mech, jumpjetting away and running circles around slower mechs, what could be better? Well, double XP wouldn't be bad. As luck would have it, the free-to-play mech 'em up is doubling all XP earned this weekend, jolting players further along their tech trees.

MWO's first double XP weekend will kick off at 10am Pacific on Friday, then run until 10am Pacific on Monday, January 21. Developer Piranha recommends stacking up XP boosters to milk the weekend of every last drop of XP it can give, and to give it a little more cash too.

"After a much-needed break over the holidays, we're raring to go with exciting 2013 content updates," creative director Bryan Ekman said in the announcement. "The addition of community-focused features such as the Double XP event, new Mechs and performance tweaks lets us kickoff the New Year in a big way. This is just the beginning of a huge year for MechWarrior fans."

One piece of new content raring to go on the starting line is a new Commando Hero Mech packing four medium lasers, the Death's Knell. It'll hit on January 22.
