Square Enix North American office hit with layoffs
by Steve Watts, Dec 17, 2012 7:30am PSTSquare Enix's Los Angeles office has been hit by an unspecified number of layoffs. Rumors began to circulate over the weekend that the staff reduction would impact Square's online projects like the relaunch of Final Fantasy XIV. The company has confirmed the layoffs, but said that this will not impact its online plans.
"In order to ensure it is operating effectively, the Square Enix Los Angeles office has reduced its workforce," Square Enix PR director Riley Brennan told Massively. "This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles. Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn."
