Long time listener, since 2006, 1UY days. First time poster.
Just wanted to say that I don't generally care about this whole hullaballoo going on right now about games "journalism".
FYI, I work in advertising, and I previously worked at a PR firm here in the UK for a huge gaming company a few years back. It initially shocked me how everything worked -- how we basically stated was scores we wanted in various reviews, in exchange for assets and access to developers and promo copies of upcoming games.
Then I realised how it was kinda obvious all along. All the way back to the genesis of Giant Bomb, and other controversies after the fall-out of the dot-com crash, games media and PR have a very blurred line. That's just the nature of the Games industry. It ebbs and flows, but it's never clear-cut.
Not to say that some outlets and writers don't try to provide a fair and transparent opinion, many do, but only a fool would take what they read in games media without a pinch -- nay, a sack -- of salt.
Regarding Andrea: I'm sure what she said in the heat of discussion was most probably her honest opinion, and she didn't pre-meditatively go into recording, waited a couple of hours and then sprung her shill line. No. Far from it. And I'm sure she treats her opportunity to be on your show with more respect.
Which is what I love about your format. There's such a strong vibe of love and respect at the table, that you can tell the speakers aren't there to shill, they're there to hang out and say what's honestly on their mind. Indeed, shillers are often invited to come and shill their latest up-and-coming. (And, as was the case with Spec Ops: The Line, you sometimes shoot them down the following week!) But the regulars are there just to genuinely shoot the shit with friends...
Love you guys, and love you Two-N's, and love you Andrea. :)
