Mass Effect fan film 'Red Sand' released
by Steve Watts, Oct 09, 2012 9:30am PDTThe Mass Effect fan film Red Sand has finally been released, with the recognizable voice of Commander Shepard. The short is set 35 years before the game series, and stars Mark Meer (voice of the Male Shepard) as Commander Jon Grissom, who is tasked with protecting ruins from terrorists.
Since it takes place in the Mass Effect universe, though, these terrorists have biotic powers granted by a drug called "Red Sand." The ruins happen to house plenty of Element Zero, which is used to make the drug, so you can see how the two forces would be at an impasse. Check out the short film below, or read our interview with the film's producer, director, and star for insights on the process.
