They need to kill off their current protagonists and start over. Their stars are now indestructible. Until that changes and people fear their characters death more than a game over screen, RE is screwed.
This will be the first one I've passed on. It's just a terrible thing.
Silent Hill gets knocked for its failings, but at least it has stayed true to its genre.

I even played the demo and felt very unsure of the final game, but I got it anyway, and it I had way more fun than all negative reviews suggest. The game only has a small handful of problems. 1) Split-screen co-op ammo and drops are split, making it loads more difficult than solo or online. 2) QTEs EVERYWHERE, but even worse are the segments where you have to run away from something. 3) No weapon customization, replaced instead by "skills" which just pale in comparison to weapon upgrades in 4/5. 4) Too much explosions all the time. It could have really used some slower paced segments to make the action stand out more.
Other than that I consider RE6 to be unequivocally superior to 5. The "Gears of Chris" and "Call of Evil" statements are completely false and idiotic, since the game plays nothing like either of them. The gameplay feels much more like 5, but with more refined controls and a better melee system.
And if you think the RE characters are too superhuman for their own good, you should really check out Chris's campaign. I think it's some of the strongest storytelling in the entire RE franchise, and I HATED Chris in 5. He was such an unbelievable boyscout. But RE6 he feels like a real character in some really f-ed up situations, and watching him struggle with internal issues was actually quite compelling.
The game is a bit of a mess, I admit, but I don't understand all the hate. The 4 campaign interweaving story was actually remarkably ambitious.
