but the worst part of the dilemma is that some journalists live in delusion in which they feel they are good at games so there is absolutely no way to satisfied said individuals.

I'm flattered that you think I'm single-handedly responsible for any trend in the games industry, but describing your post as hyperbolic is a huge understatement.
Just because I don't want to do math every time I open up my inventory in a first person shooter doesn't make me the gaming AntiChrist. I'm also not sure how preferring not to do mild number crunching between shootouts makes me less "good" at the games in general. It's not a huge deal, just a preference.
All of this is especially ironic because I agree that a lot of (mainstream) games these days tend to hold the players' hands too much, but I attribute that more to those developers overcompensating in the area of accessibility in an effort to reach a wider audience.
That said, there's still plenty of good, non hand-holdy stuff out there, provided you're willing to look around. Go play some Dwarf Fortress, Mark of the Ninja, Space Pirates and Zombies, or FTL, for example.
