Weekend Confirmed 130 - Wii U, Mark of the Ninja, Borderlands 2
by Jeff Mattas, Sep 14, 2012 6:00pm PDTGarnett Lee is joined by "Indie" Jeff Mattas and regular guest Andrea Rene for another round of Weekend Confirmed. On the docket this week are a number of topics surrounding the recent Wii U launch announcements, including some debate about pricing, the strength of its launch title lineup, and who Nintendo is courting as the console's core audience. Developer Klei's Mark of the Ninja gets some universal admiration from the crew, as well. Jeff has to skip out before the last segment, and Garnett and Andrea pull everything together with some early impressions of Borderlands 2 and, of course, Finishing Moves.

I remember watching the ShackNews Daily thing a few days ago and man, the obviously butthurt bollocks that came from Garnett amazed me. Hassling Nintendo for having an HDMI cable by saying "Welcome to the 21st Century Nintendo." You can't be serious.
Garnett and crew. Can I ask what Nintendo has done to you? Something must have happened because you've just got worse and worse as the Wii U has come closer to being out. Because Nintendo didn't do the MS/SONY route has that basically fucked them up the arse wrt your opinions of them?
Wii U is the first next gen console.
It's got a fucking touch screen as a controller that opens up TONNES of gaming possibilities
It's US$300 for the base unit (that's not expensive given the controller and the shit state of the YEN)
It is getting major third party ports now, unlike the Wii
It will have Nintendo titles in HD
Has Nintendo TVii (We don't get that in my territory at al)
What's really to hate? Really? The fact that it's not as powerful as a full PC rig? If that's your yardstick of gaming "awesomeness" then you're a lost cause.

Also, the simple idea of reading text in menus or tutorials on a tablet makes my eyes thank me. I sometimes strain reading significant amounts of text on a screen 8 feet away.
Without a doubt, tablet integration has a lot of potential. It's all gonna depend on support from devs amd consumers embracing it. Without those two ingredients it's doomed.
