Some PC gamers have profited from the not-quite-virtual economies of games like Team Fortress 2 and Diablo 3. Sony Online Entertainment's stable of MMOs will soon offer in-game item creation and marketplace sales as well, thanks to the upcoming "Player Studio" announced by the publisher today.
The Studio will let players download sample geometry for in-game objects, design and personalize their item, write a short description, and then submit it to SOE for review. If it makes the cut, it will be sold on the marketplace and the creator will get 40% of the item's net sales.
At launch the studio will only compatible with the EverQuest titles, but the official site promises it will eventually roll out to Free Realms and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes too. More details are to be shared at the SOE Live event in October.
Meanwhile, EverQuest is getting a "Rain of Fear" expansion, which will continue the story from the House of Thule and feature new character customization and a level cap of 100. EverQuest II is getting Chains of Eternity, which will add prestige abilities, adornments, two spirit-realm versions of overland zones, new dungeons, and a new level cap of 95. They're both planned to release this November, and SOE Live attendees will get a complimentary copy of each expansion.
