Ubisoft reserves Watch Dogs movie domains
by Steve Watts, Jun 18, 2012 2:15pm PDTWatch Dogs captured a lot of attention at E3, based partly on being one of the only big surprises at the show. Ubisoft seems to have ambitious plans for the new franchise, even including the possibility of a movie. A set of domain names could hint at game tie-in plans.
Fusible (via Push Square) reports that on June 14, Ubisoft Entertainment registered WatchDogsMovie.com. The company also registered a handful of permutations, some with a dash and others with "TheMovie" instead.
It seems early to fast-track a big-budget Hollywood spectacle, especially given the past performance of some game-based movies. On the other hand, Ubisoft does have its own film production division, and a tie-in movie could easily be straight-to-DVD or otherwise part of the game's marketing push. Of course, it could also just be a move to lock down the domains in case Ubisoft ever does want to make a movie, even without immediate plans to make anything.
