Gears of War Exile no longer in development, rumored to be Kinect game

Gears of War 3 may be the last we see of the COGs for quite some time, as developer Epic Games has revealed that another installment in the franchise--titled Gears of War: Exile--is no longer in development.

The canceled game was rumored to be a Kinect title.

"Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been cancelled," Cliff Bleszinski told Gamespot.

Bleszinski has long talked about combining Microsoft's Gears franchise with their motion camera system. However, he insisted that it would have to be a game built from the ground-up for a controller-free experience. "I've been asked about integration into Gears. If we had put it into Gears 3, considering the development time table, it would have been a tacked-on feature," he told Eurogamer last year. "If we were to get around to doing something Kinect-based, we would want to dedicate something to it and really knock it out the park and make it a Kinect game."

It doesn't appear the team was able to make that project come to fruition.
