Street Fighter X Tekken won't receive 'Ultimate' version, says Capcom
by Steve Watts, Nov 14, 2011 4:30pm PSTNo one could fault you for assuming that sometime after Street Fighter X Tekken hits, we'll see an expanded roster and balance tweaks hitting stores as the new Ultimate Hyper Turbo edition. But Capcom's Yoshinori Ono has said that SFxT won't get the usual Capcom fighter treatment -- though he didn't rule out the possibility of large-scale DLC.
"If we decide to create a new version of the game, we will go with the Street Fighter IV series route, by providing online update patches for the game," Ono told Gematsu (via PushSquare). "So I would say that you don't really need to worry about a new version of the game coming out. If we choose to update the game, it will be done in the same fashion as Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition."
Of course, Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition actually did have a full retail release, but Ono is clearly referring only to the update DLC that players could get at a cheaper price. That means SFxT might see revisions, and you might have to pay for them, but it won't be on a disc at your local game store.
At least, that's Ono's promise for the time being. We have to wonder if Capcom will ultimately decide release a disc for players who can't download large bits of DLC, like Xbox 360 owners without hard drives. Plus, releasing retail-based updates is a long and proud tradition for Capcom. It's sort of their thing.
