Weekend Confirmed 86 - Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Saints Row the Third
by Garnett Lee, Nov 11, 2011 11:11am PSTThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3 arrived this week and the Weekend Confirmed crew takes a little break from playing them to share their stories from the games. Wouldn't you know, a cold bug seems to be sweeping through the offices as well, laying out Xav and sapping Garnett. He carries on, though, joined by Jeff and Christian because the show must go on. And boy does it. Saints Row the Third also got into the mix of what we've been playing and we take a look at whether it's odd to play portable games from the comforts of our couch and what we learned about Mass Effect 3 from the beta that briefly leaked out on Live. As always, we wrap it all up with Finishing Moves and our football Tailgate.

Essentially all a new Call of Duty game is, is a skin. New gun skins (maybe slightly different stats) new character skins and new maps, it's just a 60 DLC with a short story and a few new game modes, hell Halo does this for free, so did the AC:B multiplayer.
What's the point in wasting your money on this?

Earning a blue shell in Mario Kart, or being closest to the item drop when a Hammer falls in SSB has nothing to do with skill, but completely destroys the playing field.
You earn advantages in competitive pursuits. Imagine Football if the position of the first down was decided by a coin flip. Wins and losses are meaningless, because the team that wins may have simply benefited from random chance.
In CoD, the random spawns, the fact that players at higher levels have access to equipment and kill-streaks that other players don't, bad netcode, and a host of other features rob the game of the kind of competitive legitimacy that games like Quake, Counter-Strike, Halo, Team Fortress 2 and others enjoyed and continued to enjoy.
That's all I meant. You can 'get competitive' with whatever game you choose - but the wins and losses are essentially meaningless.
