Weekend Confirmed 84 - Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, GTA V announced
by Garnett Lee, Oct 28, 2011 11:15am PDTBattlefield 3 blew up across the video game world this week and its shockwaves carried right over to Weekend Confirmed. But believe it or not, BlizzCon momentarily upstages the modern warfare, as Xav, Jeff, Andrea, and Garnett get distracted by pandas in WoW and the latest title to board the DOTA train. This special episode was recorded in the evening and the crew celebrated with beers and bourbon. So buckle up, it gets bumpy from the start. Along the rest of the way there's talk of Uncharted 3 and Dance Central 2, hopes and dreams for Grand Theft Auto V, and, of course, Finishing Moves.

THANK YOU!
Somebody finally gets my motion-controls are a con.
Since videogames were invented, they have provided players with large action for small input.
Press a button to jump.
This is what makes frenetic action games possible, what makes large worlds possible to explore, what makes incredibly complicated feats like flying fighter jets possible.
Trying to force a one-to-one ratio of input to result can only drag-down game design, not evolve it. The games that make use of such input must become simple and one-dimensional in order to accomodate the effort, space, and precision constraints of the user.
Thread Truncated. Click to see all 10 replies.
The questions you should thus ask are: Is the motion control precise enough to actually work? And does is offer anything that a button can't?
And while the first one might still be a big "maybe" with Kinect and a "no" for classic Wiimote. It might actually be a "yes" for Move. And as for the second one, grenade through via Move would allow completely new strategies, you could throw them sideways, backwards, roll them on the ground or just throw them right at your feed. Actions impossible with classic FPS controls where your viewing direction is tied to your walking direction and where your control over throwing distance is often rather limited.
