Most of you probably remember the "Buddy System" as what your kindergarten teacher called it when she made you hold someone's hand on a field trip. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is borrowing the phrase for its multiplayer pairing system, which grants benefits like spawn locations and special medals. As the sandwich-powered multiplayer demo continues, Naughty Dog detailed how some of the Buddy features work.
As detailed by a video on the PlayStation Blog, once you've established a buddy, you can spawn on him or her using the triangle button. If you collect a piece of treasure for your buddy, you won't get the money, but you'll get a medal for helping out.
You can also high-five your buddy after working together to take down an enemy, which will give you a medal and some cash. Note that this only works in video games, as high-fiving over an actual corpse probably violates some kind of international law. If you're not pleased with your buddy, you can go high-five someone else to pair with them. Two-timer.
The video also briefly covers treasure chests, which can hold large cash payouts or pieces of treasure. Once you complete a set, you get a unique unlock to customize your character.
The blog also notes that the Subway promotion is still ongoing, so if you want to get in on the multiplayer you still can. The game itself launches on November 1.
