Weekend Confirmed and the 8-4 Podcast have merged into one during the Tokyo Game Show once again! Garnett Lee and the crew at 8-4, Ltd.--behind such games as Shadow of the Damned--discuss their experience in Japan during TGS 2011. I think the idea that Heavy Rain lost x amount in sales due to used game sales is highly inaccurate and simply an excuse for weaker-than-expected sales. I strongly believe that people buying used games are most likely NOT in the market for buying new games. You are buying used because you do not - for any number of reasons - want to pay full price for a game. If the used market did not exist, you would not convert 100% of those used purchases to full retail purchases; I suspect it'd be a small percentage of them actually paying full retail.

This same argument extends into piracy as well. Neil Gaimen's talk on book piracy is fantastic:

Now you can certainly argue that book sales are a different beast than other media, but I think the general concept is still applicable. Piracy, used sales, lending to a friend - only puts your media in front of more eyes, which will only be good for your product and brand in the long run.

    I really don't see how you can make the claim gamestop is actively fucking the publisher and consumer. Gamestop is actively taking a risk buying back used games at whatever the buy back price. And every product they buy back is money back to the consumer for let's just say a dead paper weight. They also help the consumer with the lower priced game market for every $55 game you bring up they have 3 $35 games. Also they're keeping publisher from having the ability to just put the price where ever there heart desire and say fuck you where else you gonna get it.
