My problem is, first and foremost, time. I simply don't have enough of it. I'm a 32 year old father of a 1 year old and I'm attending college to finish my degree. I rarely have time to myself and even when I do I don't always want to play a game. Sometimes I just want to sit back and do something passive. I'm active all day long so I usually unwind with some TV.
I think there are some ways for game developers to help with this. First, make games shorter and cheaper. I'd rather play a really good concise 3 or 4 hour game at 30 or 40 dollars than a 60 dollar game that's artificially extended to 10 or 12 hours with a bunch of fluff. Second, they need to stop making so many games. Some games just shouldn't be made (Brink) and other games, while they may be somewhat good, just don't need to exist (Medal of Honor). I'd rather play 5 -10 excellent games a year than 15-20 alright games.
My backlog has gotten so big it's made me want to just completely quit gaming at times. I feel like I'll never catch up and really there's no way I can when there are constantly new games coming out. So developers aren't doing anyone any favors by flooding the market. I think it may end up driving people away from gaming. No one likes to feel like they can't keep up or like they're missing out on something great.

It's for this reason that I so strongly believe we need to get on the episodic content model. It was just ahead of its time and poorly executed. Much like the difference between TV and film. There's room for both in video games. There are far more TV shows than movies, and when they don't work, the producers move on. With a good engine and production group, a team could make episodic games in a similar way.
