June NPD: L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem and Infamous 2 top the list; Xbox sells over 500K units
by Xav de Matos, Jul 14, 2011 5:00pm PDTDespite analyst firm Wedbush Morgan halving initial sales estimates for Duke Nukem Forever earlier this month, Take Two's returning hero made it to number two on the NPD Group's monthly "Top Ten" chart of best-selling, physical retail titles. The Team Bondi-developed cop action-drama L.A. Noire retained its number one spot for a second month.
Infamous 2 had a strong showing, coming in at third despite launching during E3 2011--a time where most hardcore gamer attention is focused everywhere but the release calendar. Also receiving plenty of attention was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D at number five on the top ten list, making it the first 3DS to appear on the chart.
Total game sales slumped to $1.03 billion versus $1.15 billion during the same period last year. Microsoft was quick to declare its console the industry's big winner, topping console sales by moving 507,000 units during the month, which Microsoft claims is "nearly twice as many units as other current-generation platforms" during the recorded period.
