Weekend Confirmed 67 - Ocarina 3DS, Dungeon Siege III, indie games

By Garnett Lee, Jul 01, 2011 12:15pm PDT

Summer has arrived and Weekend Confirmed is ready to take it on with "Indie" Jeff Mattas joining Jeff and Garnett along with special guest Billy Berghammer. They start the show in Whatcha Been Playin? with a quick second look Shadows of the Damned, a first take on Dungeon Siege III, and Billy's playthrough of Ocarina of Time on the 3DS. Jeff brings a smorgasbord of indie games including Frozen Synapse, Jamestown, and Atom Zombie Smasher. The group moves on to discuss whether "community" in games can evolve beyond badges and stat keeping. And in the news the talk turns to the landmark Supreme Court ruling and World of Warcraft going free-to-play--or has it--before wrapping things up with Finishing Moves.

  • The Pile of Shame thread:

Just this week, went back and beat Pokemon White (by which I mean, I beat the champ and saw credits, there's still a lot of game left to play). Which is particularly shameful as the main quest in any given Pokemon game isn't remarkably challenging.

What's gonna be much more of a challenge is Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. I've dropped and come back to it about 4 times already. This game kicks my ass, but I want to get through it in time for Devil Survivor: Overclocked.

    • I'm working my way through Pokemon White as well. I'm only up to the third gym leader at this stage, but I'm liking the new Pokemon so far.

In the past month I finished Uncharted 1, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Mass Effect 2. Loved all of them; Kirby now being my favourite Wii title.

I'm just about to finish Uncharted 2 as well; loving all of it, except for the weird supernatural creatures in both games; from a design perspective, I don't understand why are they there. Having said that, I can't wait for U3.

I'm treading through Red Dead and Arkham Asylum. The former is becoming too repetitive that I have a feeling i won't finish it. Batman on the other hand is brilliant. Rocksteady should be working on the next Assassin's Creed just to fix that series' combat.

After those I'll be getting into Alan Wake, Crysis 2 and LA Noire.
