Weekend Confirmed Episode 65
by Garnett Lee, Jun 17, 2011 11:00am PDTThe dust has settled on E3 2011 and we sweep up with a full slate of games we saw on this week's show. But before getting to that, Xav, Jeff, Garnett, and our good friend Andrea Rene of Clevver TV tackle Duke Nukem Forever. From there it's on to Forza 4, F1, Hitman, Torchlight 2, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Ace Combat, and many more. Duke resurfaces in the news when the group discusses the fervor over the reviews and PR responses. There's the rest of the videogame news as well and we wrap it all up with Finishing Moves.

Is there a way for Duke Nukem to be true to character, and not be misogynist? And if so, how would that look? Or was Duke Nukem only successful as a character because he existed in an area where most of the consumers of his media (i.e. PC gamers) were young men, and now that the industry's consumer base has matured, he's just offensive?

Unfortunately the game seemed to play this relative one-note joke over and over and just made it louder. They really pounded that misogynist card way too hard (implied 'hummer' at the beginning, choice of mercy-killing impregnated women... or not... either way, Duke just moves on, etc.). I feel all this was just making up for what was lacking in the gameplay portion (and understandable considering what I believe to be Gearbox coming in to just edit and rush the game out).
