As promised, Nintendo updated the 3DS firmware with the eShop in the wee hours last night. You can now pick up your free copies of 3D Classics Excitebike and the Pokedex 3D from the shop, as well as use the existing (but until now, non-functional) browser icon.
DSiWare is available through the shop as well, now marked at retail value with real dollars. The Virtual Console offerings include Super Mario Land ($3.99), Alleyway ($2.99), and Radar Mission ($2.99). This probably gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Virtual Console price points.
Finally, in a clever easter egg (via ONM) that the Internet discovered in no time, VC games have a few nods to the classic device. If you hold Start and Select while loading a Virtual Console game, it will be presented in its original resolution with a Game Boy border. Holding down L and R during play brings up a prompt to press Y to make the game appear green. And turning on the 3DS slider gives the Game Boy border a bit of dimension. Cute, Nintendo.
Nintendo's E3 press briefing will be starting soon, where the company is sure to reference this launch among its selling points for the device. We'll be bringing you all the updates as they come.
