Hideo Kojima reveals new multiplatform 'Fox Engine,' powers new project
by Xav de Matos, Jun 02, 2011 7:15pm PDTThere was a serious lack of Metal Gear Solid: Rising action during Konami's pre-E3 conference today; however, Kojima Productions did offer one new announcement: a new development engine, powering a new Kojima-directed game.
Hideo Kojima dropped a few hints on a future project being developed at his internal Konami studio, explaining that the unannounced title will run on the team's brand new technology--aptly named the "Fox Engine." The engine is a multiplatform development tool that Kojima Productions will use in-house. Though platforms were not explicitly stated, Kojima teased demoing the tech by picking from a line-up of control options for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 [via GameTrailers].
According to Kojima, the engine has been in development internally since just after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Being multiplatform will allow Kojima Productions the luxury to develop more games across a broader scope of platforms. However, it's interesting that a new engine is being introduced as a time saver this late into this generation's console cycle.
Shacknews will be at E3 2011 next week and will hunt down more details on the new unannounced game and the new engine. Perhaps they will both be hiding under a cardboard box.
