While UMDs won't be able to make the leap into the NGP generation, PSP owners that own games available on the PlayStation Network will be able to take advantage of NGP's backwards compatibility support. A report on Eurogamer confirms that NGP will be able to play all PSP games currently available on the PlayStation Network.
Legacy games that are re-downloaded onto a NGP will be launched via an emulator, one that will allow upscaling of games. As with Sony's PS1 and PS2 emulator on PS3 systems, users will be given the option to enable and disable the feature any time.
Resistance Retribution was shown working on the NGP, and as with Monster Hunter, the NGP version allows the second analog stick to be used to control the camera. It'll be interesting to see how many other classic games will be updated to take advantage of other NGP-unique features.
