Nintendo can't stick with just motion controls. What would be the point? The other systems offer motion controls. Nintendo is no longer unique. They need something to engage players and that thing is NOT motion. Look at their recent releases. Kiryby, Donkey Kong, Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, none of these use motion in any real way. I really don't think they care about it any more. They want to move on to the next thing. Sure motion will still have a role in the Wii 2 but it'll be much less emphasized. They can't get rid of it completely if the other systems offer it. That would be limiting their console right off the bat.
If you use your imagination the screen on the controller idea is something that could be amazing. Let me offer some example. First there's the obvious ones; calling plays in Madden, having your cards displayed in poker, holding your tiles in Scrabble, and acting as an inventory screen or map. Those are easy to imagine but are still pretty cool ideas. But it's the really novel things that will make the system shine. How about when you go down a pipe in Mario it displays on your controller. It still may be kind of simple, and maybe pointless, but a charming idea. How about using it as your "detective vision" in Batman. If you hold the controller up toward the TV it would display the room you're in in the detective mode on your controller screen. How about in GTA 5 when you go to steal a car a little lockpick mini game appears on your controller screen. While this is going on the game world would continue to function forcing you to look up at the TV screen to check for cops. Even something as simple as coming to a door in Fallout and having a keypad appear on your controller and then having to enter a passcode to open the door. How about a game like Heavy Rain where when you find an object you want to investigate it appears on your controller for closer inspection. How about Dead Rising when you want to take a picture you actually hold up the controller like a camera and use the R button to snap a picture.
I could seriously keep going on and on but you get the point. This new system sounds amazing and I'm very, very dissapointed that no one on the show seemed very enthusiastic about it.

But I think that the reason they are dismissive of Nintendo is the same reason that I am, as a core gamer. They aren't for us (me). The Wii has been a joke of a system. I'm not interested in titles like Super Mario Galaxy. It's a baby game (to me). Their last 3 core systems have been terrible. I haven't enjoyed Nintendo since the SNES when they had real, decent games from 3rd Party Publishers. I'm beyond done with their rehashed Mario, Zelda and Metroid games.
Do you really expect to get hardcore experiences like Fallout, like Red Dead, like Mass Effect from Nintendo? And if you do, why do you feel that way? They haven't done it for years. At least a decade. So why do you suddenly feel they will change their entire tune?
And as far as all your suggestions go for mini games using a touch screen on the controller... God help us if they actually do that. That sounds absolutely terrible. I don't need any more mini games. They don't make the game more immersive.
