Capcom opens mobile subsidiary Beeline Interactive
by Steve Watts, Apr 19, 2011 9:30am PDTCapcom is jumping into the mobile games market with a new dedicated subsidiary, reports Siliconera. The new brand is called Beeline Interactive Japan, and will focus on making social games for mobile devices in Asian territories.
Beeline won't be adopting known Capcom franchises, instead focusing on new intellectual property creation. If Capcom decides it wants one of its known brands like Resident Evil or Street Fighter to have a mobile version, it will be published under the usual Capcom label. We've seen this model applied with iOS versions of games like Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 4.
Ultimately, Capcom wants Beeline to help sustain the company as a functioning second leg: Capcom for core experiences, and Beeline for new social and mobile properties. For this fiscal year, the company expects Beeline won't have much impact on the bottom line, since it's just getting off the ground.
