I've always thought of myself as a "hardcore" gamer, but these days Im not so sure anymore. I work 60+ hours a week and have a family, so my actual play time isn't what it used to be. Im lucky if I get 5-8 hours of game time in a week. I listen to gaming podcasts at work, subscribe to numerous gaming mags, and in my spare 10 minutes here and there check out twitter and the web for all the gaming info I can possibly ingest.
So is my mother in law more of a "hardcore" gamer than I am because she is on Farmville for hours a day? Does logged play time determine whether you are "hardcore" or does gaming knowledge? Or the bigger question, are we "hardcore" gamers just being snobs and none of these things ultimately matter?
Glad to here The Hammer return.
Keep up the great podcast guys.

As for your second point no we're not being snobs. Gear heads, art fans, movie buffs, music buffs, technophiles, anime fans, and a whole host of other fan groups are just a 'snobby'. If you watch nothing but cartoon network cartoons like Ben 10 wouldn't an anime fan take offense if you called yourself an anime fan? If you only watch the big blockbusters at movie theaters wouldn't a movie person take offense if you called yourself a movie buff? Their is a difference between a person who only plays COD and Madden and a person who would rather spend that time playing 6 other games.
