Evening Reading
by Xav de Matos, Feb 22, 2011 5:00pm PSTSo close. Can you feel it? NewShackCity is just around the corner and I can prove it with the amount of coffee I've consumed over the last few days. Or weeks and months, I should say.
It's important to note that we're not just going to change everything around here and walk away. NewShackCity is going to see things added and made even better over time. When the new site goes live, poke around and let us know what you think.
We genuinely want to hear everything you have to say about it. If it's constructive, your opinion can help shape the future of this brave new world. We're always listening to the most important people around: our community.

Positives:
-overall feels like a DA game
-graphics engine is much-improved (even with its more "cell-shaded", cartoon-like looks)
-lots and lots of blood and gibs!
-the rogue class (both melee and ranged) feels more fun to play
Not sure:
-the simplified dialog tree. There are less choices and demo does not currently "care" what choice you make, so not sure how the retail game will reflect this change...
-the simplified GUI (hotbars/inventory/skilltrees) It really feels very simplistic, but it doesn't seem to "gimp" my gameplay in any significant way
Dislikes:
-the character's "cutscene" animations are still pretty poor
-the in-game character's animations (running/fighting) and their speed feel like I'm playing JRPG
-the "blight" creatures are now dressed like Lord Marshal from "Chronicles of Riddick" :-/
-Flemeth looks like Alexstrasza?

Other than that, it was pretty fun and satisfying demo. Combat seems to be more fast paced, which may be disheartening for the pause attack pause folk. I didn't find it too distracting with all the showy movements, though.
Didn't get a good read on the dialogue system as there wasn't too much of that.
I'll wait until the price is less than 60 freaking dollars (even a 10% sale on steam), though. I'm itching to play it, but not itching that badly.
