Rage Trailer Shows Great Views and Giant Mutants
by Alice O'Connor, Feb 17, 2011 7:45am PSTThe wonders and horrors of Rage's post-apocalyptic wasteland are on show in a new trailer for id Software's shooter/racer. Accompanying it is a new tune by Mark Lanegan, Queens of the Stone Age veteran and singer of lovely duets with Isobel Campbell.
The trailer shows gameplay snippets of a wide range of Rage's features, from friendly NPC towns and craftable gadgets to violent racing and giant, towering mutants.
Headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Rage is apparently still on course to hit the September 13 release date announced at QuakeCon last year. It'll be published by id's fellow ZeniMax subsidiary Bethesda Softworks.

The giant mutants/evil villains have a bit of a Trigun feel to them.
I just hope Bethesda doesn't inflate it to $100 on Steam for Australia just because they hate our beaches.

I'm highly anticipating the eventual release and averageness of it. And then it's on to some other anticipation that will end up average to decent.
Be honest, you play that game too. A Deus Ex comes along every 1000 years its coming is a prophecized. Oh great game, save us from the mediocrity that is "AAA" games.

Corridor->Bandit->Corridor->Bandit->Corridor->Bandit. It essentially Doom/Quake gameplay but at a much slower pace and a with much less exciting action. I'm no Call of Duty fan and had never played the game until recently, but when I did play Modern Warfare 1 and 2 a few weeks ago I had a great time. It had varied gameplay, thrilling set pieces and spectacular events happening all around me. In comparison the Rage gameplay just looks incredibly mundane and repetitive, lacking in both action and excitement.
I don't know what Id are aiming for with Rage. They're not delivering the varied, exciting and over the top gameplay that CoD offers and they're not delivering the high pace, high action sort of game that they made in their earlier days. With Doom 3 and Rage Id seem to have settled on offering extremely slow paced, unexciting gameplay and selling games based on the graphics and their past reputation.
Nobody at Id has the slightest clue what makes a game good and they're just recycling the old 90s gameplay with a new engine each time. They used to be the best in the world and lead the industry in terms of innovation, fun-factor and thrilling action. Now they make the most generic and uninspired games imaginable. Where did it all go wrong?
