1) The discussion of what makes a game a game, based on Garnett's experience at DICE, very quickly devolved into the ridiculous. We have completely forgotten the meaning of the word "real" when we say that an in-game communication or relationship can't be compared to posting something on someone's "real Facebook wall." Nothing about Facebook is real. One could very easily have three or four fictional Facebook personas, with pictures, friends, hobbies, status updates, etc. And even for those who don't create fictional characters on Facebook, it is still a stretch to call social media "real." The elaborately edited version of our everyday lives that appear as status updates, the carefully chosen pictures that present an idealized life, hardly qualify as an accurate representation of reality.
2) Jeff C's personality changed completely during this show. I'm an avid listener and never miss an episode, but had not anticipated that the commentator who is known for being a bit more "sensitive" (our champion of artistic experiences and innovation in gaming, no less!) would spend so much energy acting foolishly cool when the guest happened to be a hot woman. Seriously Jeff, if you listen to yourself on this episode, it is clear you are putting on a show for Andrea, trying to impress her by being a loudmouth comedian ("Party Time!" etc.) and by arguing with her in a much more aggressive manner than you normally do with the other members of the podcast. It kind of left the listeners behind . . . Not to mention Garnett, who had to suggest that you two find time alone to "duke it out." It would be great to hear women on the show more regularly, and Andrea was brilliant--articulate, knowledgeable, and fun. But I'm not sure it's worth it if it's going to make the normally reliable Cannata regress.
