Heavy Rain Movie Adapted by 'Deadwood' Creator
by Alice O'Connor, Jan 27, 2011 7:00am PSTFollowing reports and much speculation, Variety has confirmation that Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain is headed to Hollywood. 'Deadwood' and 'NYPD Blue' creator David Milch has signed up to adapt the interactive movie into a regular movie.
The movie is being developed by production company Unique Features with Warner Bros., which is reportedly 'fast-tracking' it.
"David Milch's incredible ability to transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us to have on 'Heavy Rain,'" Unique's Bob Shaye said. Milch will start writing once he's finished working on the first season of HBO series 'Luck,' another of his creations
While Heavy Rain had cinematic aspirations, turning it into a movie itself is a little curious considering two of its main selling points were the branching storyline and unprecedented level of control players had over the four main characters. It came out for PlayStation 3 in February 2010, later gaining PlayStation Move Support.
