Dead Space Comes to iPhone, iPad

If the media blitz surrounding Dead Space 2 hasn't fulfilled your penchant for severing monster limbs, maybe the ability to play on-the-go will. EA released Dead Space iOS today, a surprisingly accurate facsimile of the console versions for the iPhone ($6.99) and iPad ($9.99). Now you can horrify mothers from the comfort of your subway seat.

The game features its own original plot, which leads into the story of Dead Space 2. It requires iOS 3.0 or later, and is rated 12+ for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who has played a game in the series. As added incentive, registering the game with EA unlocks content in Dead Space 2. It comes in at a fairly hefty 291 MB, so while waiting for the install you can check out a video of the game in action after the break.

    I'm about 2 hours into the iPad version and really enjoying it. The controls work almost shockingly well. The only other shooter I've really gotten much enjoyment from on iOS was Doom and I think mostly because you don't really have to aim vertically. This has a similar control scheme to Battlefield: Bad Company on the iPhone which I absolutely hated but because of the increased screen space this works really well on the iPad. I still occasionally tap to fire...and it doesn't fire...but compared to most iOS shooters I've tried I'm loving this.
