Duke Nukem Forever Trailer and Screens Released

by Alice O'Connor, Jan 21, 2011 7:18am PST

Hot on the heels of news that Duke Nukem Forever will be released on May 3 in North America--May 6 worldwide--developer Gearbox has dropped a media bomb with new screenshots and the long-awaited 'first' trailer for the near-mythical macho shooter.

"When I said goodbye to 3D Realms and the original Duke Nukem 3D team in 1997 and soon after founded Gearbox Software, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that a day like today would come," said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford in a new, fancy and official announcement. "Today I am proud, humbled and even astounded to announce that the day is coming at last for all gamers to be a part of video game history: Duke Nukem Forever will launch worldwide this May!"

Duke Nukem Forever will hit PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, published by 2K Games.

  • I'm so glad the wait is finally over for this game. I've been waiting for this game for a very long time. Since the early years I used to frequent the 3D-Realms forums looking for scraps of information about this game and it's always been very tight lipped. Now take years and years of this information blackout and things got pretty frustrating, for everyone. Being a Duke fanatic it has been especially difficult. It's been an interesting and very long ride and after watching this trailer, I am proud and happy to say that the Duke I remember is finally back!

I personally thought the trailer was hilarious, I loved the little jabs in regards to the games long history that was made about the game taking so long to come out. The pissing scene made me lol, along with Duke punching some giant alien in the nuts. Just lots of little things that really pump me up to play the game. I just need to survive till May 3rd and then after that I can finally die a happy man.

  • Day one purch!

I've honestly never turned my back on Duke... I've always hoped it would come out at some point. I've been frustrated and disappointed over the development process but I've always had faith it will be fun when/if it ever came out. It might not be the latest and greatest in the graphics department... but I'm already convinced it will be a lot of fun to play.

And about the graphics... I hear a lot of people tearing it apart... but I honestly don't think it looks as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. Yeah, it's a bit dated... but the design is still good. Great design is what made the original Duke look good as well... that engine was really just a fancy Doom engine.. but the way the way they designed the levels made it look so good.

I think it's going to rock... sign me up.. i'm already sold. I might even have to get it on PC and 360...
