Evening Reading
by Garnett Lee, Jan 11, 2011 5:00pm PSTWell, it turned out that my gut feeling about Oregon was misplaced. Both teams played their hearts out after a slow first quarter, but in the closing minutes Auburn showed how battle-hardened playing in the SEC had made them. Only a few NFL games left too, but boy are there some great match-ups taking shape--big time rivalries like Ravens vs. Steelers and Jets vs. Patriots, two exciting offenses in Falcons vs. Packers, and the Cinderella story Seahawks vs. the Bears.
While we're ticking off the time for the games to arrive this weekend, here's the top video game stories from today on the Shack:

- Bulletstorm PC System Requirements Announced
- Nintendo's 3DS Apparently Region Locked

Who's switching carriers or picking one up?
I'd wait for the possible new iPhone this June before switching

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IntercontinuityCrossover
For more information and examples, see Thom Holbrook's Crossovers and Spin Offs Master List, which documents all known crossovers between TV series, except for cartoons. With this information, the site has been able to identify no fewer than 38 contiguous TV "universes" (as of March 2008) which are home to widely disparate (and apparently unlikely) combinations of series from different eras and networks.... series ranging from Six Feet Under and Everybody Loves Raymond to Law And Order and The X Files, taking in M* A* S* H, Cop Rock and Home Improvement along the way. Thanks to the baroque web of interconnections and crossovers, it is suggested that these shows all inhabit the same universe.
But this is the best part:
It has been noted on this and other sites that the web of crossovers connects many shows, directly or indirectly, to St Elsewhere. Since that entire series was shown in its final episode to be the fantasy of an autistic mental patient, we might reasonably conclude that the whole of television is All Just A Dream. In the words of Dwayne McDuffie, one of the executive producers of Justice League, "The last five minutes of St Elsewhere is the only television show, ever. Everything else is a daydream."
Haha! That is fucking awesome!

My sister brought it back from Africa last year. It's basically a wood slug with a screw in it and a handle.

I took the plunge with a smallish Dark Elf army. It should be arriving next week. I'm now a whole new level of nerd. :D
I love their background. Basically goodie-two-shoes High Elves got complacent and let Chaos secretly take hold in a few of their temples. Their best general finds out and executes every member, claims the King is also a follower, poisons him, and slaughters all the nobles. When he steps into the holy fire that's supposed to anoint him as leader, he's horribly scarred and curses the High Elf gods. He and his followers leave for a distant land and regularly run massive raids against the elves (and other races). Their goal: return Malekith to the throne and enslave the remaining elven populace.

Does anyone else play the fantasy variant or is it all 40k with its 5 "different" armies of Space Marines?
At least space marines are awesome.

I carefully followed the instructions step by step and *bam* my monitor is now displaying a brilliant image. Bad Company 2 looks absolutely stunning...lucious jungle greens, bright explosions, and I can see the Medic's red hat like a brilliant target. It's like a whole new computer. Anyway, I highly recommend doing this for anybody that doesn't know the first thing about monitor setup...it works!

There were a couple of good laughs, but I REALLY hate when they try to be sentimental in the show.

Went to a Red Robin tonight and there was an interesting picture on the wall. It was black and white, looking down some dirt road that led to perfectly planted rows of trees on each side. In the distance the left row angled outward.
Most of their pictures seemed pretty stock famous (i.e. the construction workers hanging out on I-beams) so I thought it might be well-known.

I don't know if this would interest anyone but I am currently working a a turn based multiplayer game and I added a twitter/facebook page to regularly posts update, kind of like a development journal of some sort.
The game is basically a mix of civilization in space and magic : the gathering (for card aspect). It is turned based and turns can be configured to lasts minutes, hours, days, weeks or infinite. The game will be originally released for Windows Phone and Silverlight (browser) platform, with more platform to follow if it catches on (all the logic is done server side so adding platform is basically just consumming a web service and doing the rendering). One interesting aspect in my opinion is that since the game is service based, players from one platform can play against any other platforms supported.
I'm doing this on my own as of now but this has been a long term project of mine so I have some money saved up specically to do some hiring (more specically an artist) once the game is in a playable state. I plan to release the game for free (at least on silverlight platform) to start with so I can at least get a small, active community going on.
Anyway, the game is in it's very early days, so if you are interested in seeing it progress, don't hesitate to subscribe (would kinda be encouraging too !)

But back to the Remington 700... http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-sps-tactical.aspx
That thing looks pretty sweet, and seems to be very well regarded using match grade ammo at ~500 yards.
I'm going to shoot my brothers Tikka T3 30-06 Friday, and if I don't absolutely fall in love with it for some reason, I was already sold on the Savage... Now I'm having second thoughts, and might try to find the Remington. Thoughts? The Remington will probably be more expensive, and I'll likely have to special order it, too. But it looks so badass.

Hey dudes, I've recently been working on some stuff and I am putting it out there for your listening pleasure (hopefully). This track was inspired by Eve Online and the often very spacious, dreamy music you hear when you're floating around in your ship.

Anyone have any experience getting updated tags for a car that's had EXPIRED tags for 18 months or more? I figure there will probably be some sort of fine (someone mentioned it being $15.00) for not renewing properly, but I'm not sure if it's more complicated than just having my mom go into the DMV and getting new tags/plates (i want new plates).
I've been moving around the country a lot for the past 3 years and needless to say - my project Mustang hasn't gotten much love for the past two years. I finally settled in Phoenix here, and I'm about to grab my new license out here, and just got the Mustang shipped. This was my first car purchased when I was 20 -- and my mother is a co-signer, and thus on the title. Given this, I'm assuming I can keep it registered in Ohio, and insured in Arizona. Trying to keep it in Ohio so I don't have to deal with emissions, because there's no way my car will pass seeing as it has no emissions equipment even installed, haha (no cats, long tubes, etc). Otherwise I guess I will have to put high-flow cats on it.
