Epic Shows Off the Newest Unreal Engine 3 Tech Trailer; November UDK Released
by Xav de Matos, Nov 24, 2010 11:30am PSTRemember when the joke was that Unreal Engine 3 was the best, next-gen tech to use if developers wanted to add stylish browns to their titles? Epic wants you to forget all that.
Epic Games, makers of titles like Gears of War 2 and Unreal Tournament 3, have released a new trailer featuring the enhancements made to that other thing they make: the Unreal engine.
Seeing this gets us more than a little excited for the environments in Gears of War 3.
Beyond that, Epic has also released the November 2010 edition of its Unreal Development Kit. The kit--which is available for free from Fileshack for non-commercial use--gives creative types Epic's Unreal Engine 3 framework, allowing them to create their own colorful Unreal-powered world. Color and the Unreal Engine mentioned in the same sentence? It really is the future.

But most UE3 games you need to force AA compatibility flags using Nhancer (which isn't updated anymore and incompatible with newer drivers) or NVinspector which is far more complicated then it needs to be and avoided by most people. If you do manage to get some form of AA working there is a pretty good chance you'll come across some kind of unsightly bug that will make you disable it in the end anyways.
The UE3 engine is great performance wise. Most games barely load up one of my gpus. I run a setup with an i7 920 @ 4.0ghz and tri sli gtx 280's at 1920x1080 and I know most UE3 games are going to be trouble if I want to actually put my hardware to any kind of use because it is just incapable of supporting AA in any meaningful way.
