Weekend Confirmed Episode 35
by Garnett Lee, Nov 19, 2010 8:20pm PSTThanksgiving might be a week away but the new release feast is in full swing. After a couple of quick follow ups to last week's Black Ops coverage, Garnett, Brian, and Jeff serve up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, 007: Blood Stone, and Donkey Kong Country Returns as the main dishes in Whatcha' Been Playin? The reactionary commentary of ESPN's 1st and Ten cast in response to Kobe's appearance in the Black Ops ads starts off the Warning. Your thoughts on shooter fatigue, urgency without a ticking clock, and more take the conversation right up to the Front Page. October's NPD sales numbers and Bizarre Creation's uncertain future headline a full slate of news.

Here's my watcha been playin'! Add yours if you feel the feelin':
-Metro 2033: Got this as part of a THQ pack for about $5... a bit short, but a fun game that actually uses my DX11 capabilties. Quite immersive.
-Hegemony: Philip of Macedon: a well done game, with a few flaws by a small indy team. This game combines RTS and TBS feelings, with one continuous set of missions on an absolutely *moby* map. Good price, good SP value (no MP at all) , but flaws include no difficulty setting that works for me (normal is too easy and hard is too hard... err tedious), troops regen too rapidly making where they are based too critical, and the fog of war being a bit annoying as far as long term planning.
-Lord of the Rings Online: played this at release for a few month. Checked back and they really turned the game for one of limited content, to one of a lot of solid content. They have a demo, called free to play, that can last 30 hours easily, so it's worth a look. They redid the graphic and added a ton of abilities, skirmishes, quest content, areas, etc.... not bad for a grinder type game.
-Blood Bowl Legendary Ediion: bit of a disappointment, not being much of a increase over the Dark Elves edition. Still a very fun game to play vs. friends... little bit more luck that I like, but a metric *ton* of skill also.
-Pox Nora checking out the new 2v2 mode and new expansion. More than ever, a game that the more you spend, the more you win... which is a shame, because the core mechanics of the game are excellent and the 2v2 would be fun if $200 decks didn't destroy you 100% of the time.
-Second playthough on New Vegas: playing a high charisma build this time (tried 2 charisma the first time) with Rose and the 'Bot as my companions. Very Hard/Hardcore.... Very Hard is a bit insane, with how much damage everything can take, but given that I know where all the snowglobes are and how to play a good portion of the game, I have to set it here to get a challenge... still amazed at how much I missed on my first 70 hour playthrough! Amazing game.
-Red Dead zombie expansion: pretty fun!
-Sins of the Solar Empire: 2v2AI Cruel difficulty... nice co-op game that I've had since release, broke it out again for co-op fun.

Hater are gonna hate, but I personally had an absolute blast playing through it. Everything you've heard about the cutscenes is true, they're terrible, but the actual gameplay more than makes up for it.
