MachineGames Bought by Zenimax, Working on id Tech 5 Game
by Alice O'Connor, Nov 11, 2010 6:45am PSTZeniMax Media announced today that not only has it acquired MachineGames--as had been reported last week--but also that the Swedish developer is developing a new 'AAA' game built upon id Software's id Tech 5, the engine behind Rage.
MachineGames was formed in 2009 by founding members of Starbreeze Studios, the dev behind The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
"Working with our new colleagues at id and the world class publisher, Bethesda Softworks, is a tremendous opportunity," said CEO and executive producer Jerk Gustafsson. "MachineGames has assembled a dedicated team that has extensive experience working together to produce quality games. We are excited to create a new AAA title for gamers on id Tech 5 that will push the game development envelope."
As well as MachineGames, ZeniMax's video games empire includes Shinji Mikami's Tango Gameworks, developer Bethesda Game Studios, publisher Bethesda Softworks, Arkane Studios and id Software.
There's no word of when MachineGames' mysterious title is coming. It'll hit multiple platforms, with id Tech 5 supporting PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and iPhone.
